about

This might have been inspired by The Beatles' "Because," among other things I was listening to at that time. In the Summer of 1973, I was preparing to leave my job at a Montana state mental institution, to move to Portland with my band of childhood friends to "make it big" in music. So I wrote this, I guess, as a goodbye to some aspect of my old life, hello to a new one? But who is "he"? Don't ask me, I just work here.

lyrics

My Last Goodbyes

I've said my last goodbyes
Soon I'll fly
High away
Back someday
Oh, I don't know where I'm going
Blue and blowing
Leaves around
Snow come down
Slow

He's just a shadow
Moving behind himself
He's just a silhouette
Down on the ground
Everywhere he looks
He sees is own eyes looking back
All the time he had has gone by
He called me and said he was
Dark and down
I told him that he was old
