about

I first recorded this in my basement in 1977 as part of a 22 song project to get several years worth songs out of my head and recorded onto tape. On that version of this song, I had decided to put in a slide guitar, but then thought, what if I recorded three slide guitars, doing harmonies and counterpoints? So I did, and was so happy with the result that I started excitedly calling my friends to tell them. They seemed amused that I was so excited about it, but didn't seem to get why. Anyway, I decided to rerecord it now, since home recording technology has advanced so far.

Usually, I update the arrangements and lyrics when I rerecord older stuff, but I decided not to change anything on this one. So this is exactly what I recorded 34 years ago, but with better equipment, and a much older voice.

I called it "Sirius" as sort of a joke, because the lyrics were so serious, which I was unusual for me in my early songs. And also because I didn't imagine that the world I was singing about would ever be Earth.

lyrics

Sirius

Don't you get tired?
I get tired of seeing people hurting each other
Here on this rolling rock we ride
With our troubled sisters and brothers
Wouldn't you like to know
Just how lucky we really are?
This the place where we all get
Our chances to visit the stars

Can you see a world with everybody
Letting everybody be just who they are?
And can you see us living life
As though we're all aware of where we are
Before we've gone too far?
